1. Passport Requirements

  • Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Indonesia.
  • It should have at least two blank pages for entry stamps and visa sticker (if applicable).
  • Machine-readable passports are required for visa-exempt entry and e-Visa.
  • Passport must not be damaged or expired – immigration officers can refuse entry.

2. Visa or Visa Exemption – What You Need Depends on Your Nationality

Indonesia offers visa exemption or visa on arrival/e-Visa for short-term stays to citizens of most countries.

    → No visa required for tourism, family visits, business meetings (non-paid), transit.
    → Allowed stay: 30 days (non-extendable for tourism).
    → Must leave and re-enter if wanting longer stay (visa run possible but limited).
    → No pre-arrival authorization required except for the mandatory e-Arrival Card.

    → Cost: IDR 500,000 (~USD 32) for 30 days.
    → Extendable once by another 30 days (total 60 days) at immigration office (fee ~IDR 500,000).
    → e-VoA recommended – faster entry, no queues at airport counter.

  • Countries requiring a visa in advance (countries not included in visa exemption or VoA/e-VoA lists – approximately 30–35 countries remain): Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Kosovo, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Nepal (some categories), Niger, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Palestine, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Yemen.

    → Apply for a visitor visa (B211A or similar) at an Indonesian embassy/consulate before travel.
    → Processing time: 5–15 working days.

3. Length of Stay

  • Visa exemption: 30 days (non-extendable for tourism purposes).
  • VoA / e-VoA: 30 days + one 30-day extension = max 60 days.
  • Extensions: Apply at local immigration office before expiry (bring passport, photos, fee, proof of onward ticket).
  • You cannot work or study long-term without separate visas/permits (e.g. KITAS, Social/Cultural Visa).
  • Frequent visa runs (leave and re-enter) may lead to refusal after 2–3 times in a short period.

4. Other Important Requirements

  • Proof of onward/return ticket — very often checked at check-in or immigration (especially for VoA).
  • Proof of sufficient funds (~USD 1,000–2,000 or equivalent) and accommodation — may be requested (more common for VoA).
  • No COVID-19 vaccination, testing, or quarantine required (rules fully removed since 2022–2023).
  • Customs: Declare cash over IDR 100 million (~USD 6,500), restricted items (drones, certain medicines, food, plants, weapons, etc.). Fill out customs declaration on arrival.
  • Fingerprinting & photo: taken on arrival for most non-Indonesian nationals.

5. Practical Tips for a Smooth Trip

  • Submit the Indonesia e-Arrival Card at least 3 days before travel via evisa.imigrasi.go.id – mandatory for most visitors.
  • Apply for e-VoA online before travel – saves time and avoids airport queues (recommended even if VoA-eligible).
